Spring Resolution

I don't make New Years resolutions. I can't keep them. It's the worst time of year for me. I can't seem to get myself motivated to change much and I just keep plugging along with whatever lazy habits I've developed until the spring. SPRING! I love spring so much! The weather is warmer and there is more light. I make spring resolutions. My hope is that the positive changes I make in the spring and through the summer continue into the fall and winter. Inevitably, I lose my way as the school year progresses and gets busier and busier. But, I’m not going to give up and lose hope. I truly do hope that this year’s changes last.

My resolution is to take care of myself so that I can take care of my family. When I was younger I’d hear and see stories about how moms don’t take care of themselves, but they take care of everyone else. I would scoff. But now that’s me. I think the reason I don’t take care of myself is because I want to take a shortcut somewhere, somehow. I can’t not make dinner for the kids, but I can stay home from the gym because I’m tired. I can’t not take my kids to the doctor when they’re sick, but I can procrastinate on scheduling my own bloodwork or check-up. I can’t not pack the kids lunches for school, or make them breakfast, but I can just throw whatever into my lunch bag and go out the door with only my cup of coffee (which I’ve selfishly made time for). I can pack fruit cups, sliced apples, or applesauce for my kids’ snack, but do I eat fruit? Not this past winter, that’s for sure.

And since I haven’t taken care of myself, I’ve grown heavier, and more tired, and less energetic, and less happy, and less patient. All which affects my kids in a negative way.

Without going into any more explanations on what I’ve been lacking, I’m going to make a list of my goals.

Goal 1: Go to the gym.

Goal 2: Drink green juice.

Goal 3: Eat fruits and veggies.

Goal 4: Take vitamins.

Goal 5: Prepare food for snacking.
